Jo-Ann Strauss Productions (JSP) will launch the second online presenter search on 1 July 2013 during the final episode of this season’s “Glambition with Jo-Ann Strauss” on e.tv. The episode focuses on “Fast Fame” and how social media impacts the world we live in. Guests will include SA media icons Bonang Matheba, Dineo Moeketsi as well as Nondumiso Tembe, a South African actress and musician who has appeared in top international productions like “True Blood” and “NCIS”. Katryn Kruger, a South African beauty that has modeled for Vogue, Louis Vuitton, Oscar de la Renta and Prada will also be sharing her secrets to remaining grounded. She has returned to SA to complete high school after she was scouted in a shopping center at the age of 16. Buhle Moletsane, the winner of the 2012 online presenter search, will also be a guest.

The online presenter search competition encourages aspirant presenters to upload their auditions which they can record on their cellphones, smartphones, digital cameras, etc. onto YouTube and to enter via the website www.presentersearch.com. Jo-Ann held the first #OnlinePresenterSearch in 2012 which became the world’s largest competition of it’s kind with hundreds of entries being uploaded and 4 finalists being selected. The finalists traveled with Jo-Ann Strauss and Bonang Matheba to a five star resort in Zambia where they spent 3 days learning about media and honing their presenting skills. This year, the competition is open to entrants from across the African continent and auditions are to be uploaded in English and must be 30 seconds long.

The four finalists chosen will be traveling to Reunion Island with Jo-Ann and a still to be announced celebrity mentor. They will be participating in adventure sports and shooting a mini-reality series. This will be broadcast via the website http://www.presentersearch.com and the various social media channels and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite finalist and win fantastic prizes. The winner will become an online presenter for e.tv and gain valuable experience and exposure in this way. Samsung will be the main sponsor and will supply various mobile devices for the finalists to use on the island to be able to share the action via social media. The finalists will be staying at the LUX* Ile da Reunion which is the island’s only 5 star resort. They will fly there directly from Johannesburg with Air Austral.

The annual Glamour Aid Charity Dinner & Art Auction, South Africa’s most glamorous charity event on the social calendar, is set to take place on Saturday 24th August 2013 at The Bay Hotel, Camps Bay. The Glamour Aid campaign started in 2006 as a platform for celebrities and public personalities to give back to their community via various charitable initiatives. This year’s Glamour Aid Project consists of 12 prominent celebrities, including Victor Matfield, Brigitte Willers, Roland Schoeman, Michelle Botes, Arno Carstens, Francois Pienaar and Loyiso Bala. In addition, 12 acclaimed South African artists painted their interpretation of each of these celebrities, which will be auctioned on the evening of the Charity Dinner & Art Auction event in a bid to raise further money for the charitable causes. According to a report from E! News, Lindsay Lohan is currently at a private residence with her sober coach, and plans to stay there until her European vacation where she will promote her new film “The Canyons“. A letter from Cliffside Malibu Treatment Center states that Lindsay Lohan should have court-ordered therapy, in order to ensure her success with the program, “We feel that it is critical that Ms. Lohan have court ordered therapy, specifically three fifty-minute sessions a week for the next eighteen months,” the letter explains. “This should be done face to face while she is in town, and via skype or phone session is she is out of town. Our entire clinical team is in unanimous agreement that if these sessions are not required by the court and attendance not verified once a month to ensure accountability, it is a set up for almost certain failure.” In addition, LiLo‘s attorney says the actress is “doing amazing” after completing rehab.

Oscar winner Matt Damon was up for the task when asked by director Neill Blomkamp to bulk up for his role in “Elysium“. “[Neill] was so specific about what he wanted me to look like. Taking a leaf out of Justin Bieber‘s book, 20 year old Jonas Brothers singer, Nick Jonas took to Instagram to last Tuesday to post a shirtless selfie of his ripped body with a note attached, “I never do this but… Healthy living and fitness update. Post workout picture. #diabeticinshape #2.0″. In the photo the Jonas Brother, donning his Nike workout shorts, lifts his right arm above his head while staring mesmerizingly into the camera. In a new video clip promoting her upcoming single “Roar,” singer Katy Perry is going dark and making a statement about her new music. Perry then lifts up her blue wig (made famous by her “California Gurls” music video) and lights it on fire. Recently, two men, Marc Bührer and Shane McConnachie embarked on a journey placing themselves in the footprints of the homeless and destitute on the streets of Cape Town. An initiative in conjunction with Dare To Share, Marc and Shane spent 7 days on the streets and enlisted the support of a few friends including Nick French, Brad Bodsworth and Dene Botha to join for 24 hours, relinquishing their affluent lifestyles, cars, phones (and even extra changes of clothing) to spend a week on the streets as homeless people. The project was created to highlight the plight of the homeless in Cape Town and South Africa in a effort to create awareness and encourage aid. This is just one of many initiatives these men are involved in to encourage support and responsible giving to Cape Town’s homeless community. At a screening held at the 15 on Orange Hotel in Cape Town, Marc and Shane premiered a 12 minute film (reduced from over 45 hours of footage) titled “Walk The Walk (Life On The Streets)”, showcasing their journey. The documentary-film consists of a sequence of “diary entries” of their experience, from the positive to negative and clearly demonstrates the realities of life on the streets with conversations with the homeless individuals the men encountered. The film demonstrates their search for money for their next meal, finding a warm, safe place to sleep, a place to wash and so much more, that before this journey, they could have easily have taken for granted. It was an enlightening experience as invited guests including Dare To Share, various representatives  from organizations including prominent food retail stores and The City Of Cape Town were encouraged to assist with solutions and “giving responsibly” projects. The annual Ard Matthews and Friends Charity Concert will be taking place for the fourth year running on Thursday 29 August 2013. The concert will be taking place at the DoubleTree by Hilton – Cape Town Upper Eastside in Woodstock. The popular South African singer, Ard Matthews who is also lead singer of the acclaimed band Just Jinjer, has been at the forefront of this concert for the past 3 years along with the assistance of top events and PR company, The Little Black Book. The annual charity concert brings together great South African talent to raise money for a worthy cause.

The simple rule of this organization is – trust – and they hope to gain the trust of the public when it comes to the appropriation of charitable efforts. The charity aims to educate the public about the importance of giving back to others no matter how busy they get, and to allow 100% transparency when it comes to the distribution of the funds. It will also be facilitated by one of the world’s top law firms, Norton Rose, as part of their pro-bono social investment.

With near perfect weather, the Big Bottle Walk About Tasting was, for many, the highlight of the Big Bottle Festival 2013. Guests were also enchanted by the statuesque models who roamed the extensive grounds dressed in KLûK CGDT couture with hair by Caitlin Howie of ‘At Yours’ and make up by Chelsea Cathrine Hare. For the first time in South Africa, guests of the Big Bottle Festival were able to view the Bentley New Flying Spur and the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Roadster which has yet to be officially launched in the country.

Over 40 of South Africa’s top wine estates took part, including Morgenster, Buitenverwachting, Tokara, Klein Constantia, Chamonix, Delaire Graff and Mullineux amongst others. Seven of South Africa’s top chefs prepared “Winter Comfort Food” for guests, which paired beautifully with the wines on offer. With a legacy for excellence in fashion and clothing design perfected over 110 years, Tiger Of Sweden has opened it’s doors in Cape Town. Guests including singer Danny K, television personalities Jennifer Su, Liezel van der Westhuizen and Leigh-Anne Williams, actress Vanessa Haywood as well as former Miss South Africa Nicole Flint were invited to enjoy an evening of fine fashion, canapés and champagne at the official launch of the new Tiger of Sweden at the V&A Waterfront. “It’s a philosophy in a sense, we want to have a different cut to make us more unique, “ Ronnie McDonald, responsible for the menswear tailoring department, tells me, “It can mean a detail, it can mean a silhouette, fabric. It’s the idea that we’re constantly striving to be unique in some ways.” Over a glass of sauvignon blanc at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town, I chatted with Fredrik Folkesson, Product Manager and Head Sourcer Denim, about their jeans. “We looked at the market, we wanted to do a different cut when it came to silhouettes and fits, to [take] out the cow-boy and put in the rockstar instead.” says Fredrik, “A bit of rock and roll.”

Later, the festivities continued as a select few guests were invited to enjoy dinner and champagne at Shimmy Beach Club. Just a few weeks ago, Top Billing presenter Jonathan Boynton-Lee, styled by Pulse Salon invited some of his closest friends to celebrate his birthday with him at the prestigious The Michelangelo Towers‎ exclusive Cupola Suite Penthouse in Sandton City. I flew up to Johannesburg to celebrate with the birthday boy and with guests including Jennifer Su, Jay Anstey, Boitumelo Thulo, Chad Saaiman, Gert-Johan Coetzee, Simba Mhere, Gina Myers, Melinda Shaw, Conor Mccreedy and Lorinda Voges to name a few, it was an evening to remember.

The 153rd L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate is one of the most prestigious horse-racing events and last Saturday guests donned their cordial blue and white attire at the Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town. South African model Roxy Louw, who looked radiant with Anton Rupert, wearing a stunning white dress with gorgeous freeRange Jewellery, Cartier watch and Okapi bag by Hanneli Rupert.

It was certainly a star studded event with model and television personality Cindy Nell, who won the award for Best Dressed Woman wearing a Jason Kieck creation along with a fascinator by The Little Hattery. Actress Natalie Becker looked so chic in a vintage dress by Vintage In The City and Jennifer Su selected a stunning blue dress by Pallu. Liezel van der Westhuizen looked amazing in a dress by Lipsy. This year, the LQP added Best Dressed Man to the events festivities and it was comedian Siv Ngesi who became the first man to be honored with this accolade. Television and radio personalities who also attend included Janez Vermeiren, Leigh-Anne Williams, Kia Johnson and Ayanda Tini to name a few. Also invited to enjoy a day at the races was models Tracy McGregor and Lyndall Jarvis with her fiancé surfing legend Jordy Smith and the radiantly pregnant Lee-Ann Liebenberg with her husband Nicky van der Walt as well as SA cricket legend Herschelle Gibbs with his girlfriend Sherrin Davie. The L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate annually brings together friends and horse-racing enthusiasts with a backdrop of elegance, style and sophistication.
